milk painted farmhouse goodness

Hey y'all.

You ready for the latest Stellar Junk?

I bought this lovely farmhouse table from a friend.

(thanks, Greg...you are really turning into the fairy Godfather of beautiful furniture finds!)

Hello, gorgeous.

It still needed a little lovin' though. And some chairs, for goodness sakes! Mismatched, of course. That always seems so casual and farmhouse-y, doesn't it?

I was REEEEAALLLLYYYY excited to do this project because I was using new products. I got my retailer kit for "Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint" and I COULD. NOT. WAIT. to try it out!

I painted the table base in "tricycle" - and let me tell you - the coverage you see below? ONE COAT, you guys. ONE flippin' coat of paint! I could hardly believe it. Now, keep in mind, this wood was bare so it adhered really well. If there had been a varnish, it probably would've needed another coat, but, it covered so fabulously! I can't wait for you to try it out for yourself. I also mixed up some "shutter grey" and drybrushed it on. That's what gives it that rustic and worn farmhouse look.

This set needed lots of seating since it was so large, so I threw this bench into the mix, in addition to the four chairs. Check out the chippiness of the milk paint...

I go ga-ga for chippiness like this. This bench is painted in "shutter grey."

Here's one of the chairs, also in shutter grey. You can see it before, so sad and plain. Add some milk paint and an antique rice sack for the upholstery and you've got magic.

Here's a shot of the set inside my Stellar Junk space in "Adjectives Market."

I named this set "Emmy Lou."
(Any George Strait fans out there? Name that tune!)

and here's a close-up of her tabletop...I weathered it till it was fresh to death. ;)

Hope you like Emmy Lou! She's up for sale right now at Adjectives Market.

Stay tuned for your chance to get your hands on some Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint...you are going to LOVE IT! And hey, you can buy it from yours truly starting next month! I am also planning a special giveaway on my blog that will let a few of you try it out for FREE!

Happy painting, ladies!

    1. Hey Kelly! I've definitely used chalk paint before (both Cece, ASCP, La Craie) and it's kind of hard to compare. There are some similarities in that the milk paint can also be no prep / no prime...so that's awesome. The main reasons I love milk paint are 1) it's completely green and environmentally friendly. 2) It's less expensive than chalk paint. 3) The final result is totally unique to milk paint. Chalk paint just will not chip the way milk paint will - it's just a totally different, totally fabulous look and product.
I would say the only down side to the milk paint is mixing it up yourself. It's not a huge ordeal, but it's obviously more work than just popping a top. I hope you will order the milk paint from me as soon as it's available - I will be running a special blogger's promotion rate. If you're interested, shoot me an email - stellarjunk@hotmail.com.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

  5. Wow. That's awesome! I love how it all turned out and your choice of colors. Did you have to do any sanding, etc to get the worn look? I'm assuming not since you didn't mention it. What an awesome paint!

    1. Hey Sabrina! Thank you!
I did not do any additional sanding on these pieces to get extra wear. I wanted to really test the milk paint on this project, so I just painted and let the chips fall where they may! ;)
It really is awesome and I hope you will stay tuned for the giveaways I'll be running - maybe you can try the paint for free! Several lucky readers will! :)
